Study Center for Modern and Contemporary Art

The Study Center for Modern and Contemporary Art investigates the art of the 20th and 21st century from a cross-departmental perspective. The program includes lectures, workshops, study days, conferences, exhibitions, and artistic interventions, as well as the granting of research fellowships. In the future, and as part of a broader research project, our aim is to cooperate further with research facilities such as universities, art academies, museums and other academic institutions in Germany and around the globe.

The Study Center was founded in 2009 with the donation of Duke Franz of Bavaria’s private library to the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (Central Institute for Art History). From 2011-16, it received support from the German Research Foundation (DFG).
