Kunstchronik Editorial Office

Kunstchronik. Monatsschrift für Kunstwissenschaft, Museumswesen und Denkmalpflege

Since 1948 the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte has published the periodical Kunstchronik. Monatsschrift für Kunstwissenschaft, Museumswesen und Denkmalpflege in cooperation with the specialized publishing house Hans Carl, Nuremberg. At the same time it is the official organ of the Verband Deutscher Kunsthistoriker (Association of German Art Historians). The average press run currently consists of around 2,000 copies, eleven issues are published annually (September/October as a double issue). Since 2011 the July issue has been a thematically focused special issue dedicated to current questions in art historical research.

The journal’s subtitle states the focus of its contents: current debates in art historical research, methodological discussions, critical reports on questions of cultural politics or historic preservation, as well as on conferences with innovative avenues of inquiry. We also report on exhibitions that are relevant for art historical research, on new discoveries and new interpretations of art works, and finally we discuss current research approaches in overviews of the literature and book reviews. Kunstchronik is thus the only art historical periodical in the German-speaking countries that deals with all areas of the discipline of art historical research and its institutions in its coverage.

Kunstchronik publishes articles in English, French, and Italian, as well as German.
